Current Swell – Down by the River Session
Current Swell, a band based in Victoria BC, is in the foreground of the “new roots” music front pushing out of Canada’s west coast. The band has been around for a few years getting their early recognition around the world as a mainstay in the “surf rock” community. Their sound continues to develop into a blues and roots feel, gaining even more popularity with their fans while sharing stages with bands such as Xavier Rudd, The Beautiful Girls, Bedouin Soundclash, the Beach Boys and many others.
Blitzen Trapper – Down by the River Session
Blitzen Trapper are a sextet based out of Portland, Oregon. In various combinations and guises, the group had already played a long time together before the “crystalization event” in July 2000 on the slopes of the famous volcano, Mt Hood. Since then the B. Trapp. have delighted audiences of all ages and socioeconomic groups, mostly playing close to home and for many years distributing recordings like itinerant madmen, for free.
The Silent Comedy – Down by the River Session
Known for their wild live performance, genre-bending sound, and unique aesthetic, The Silent Comedy released their eponymous debut studio EP in 2008. In 2010, the band self produced their follow up LP, Common Faults. The resulting buzz from sold-out pressings of both records, and sold-out shows around California, have resulted in multiple North American tours and sharing the bill with such diverse groups as Dave Matthews Band, Mumford and Sons, The Black Keys, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Razorlight, Common, MGMT, Cold War Kids, Flogging Molly and more. The band is currently working on their next album which is expected to be released in late 2013.
The True Spokes – Down by the River Session
Through a decade of fearless, seat-of-the-pants music-making, countless live performances, and a handful of beloved albums, The True Spokes have developed that rare, magnetic combination of radio-ready songcraft and transportive instrumental chops. Through their annual Summer Meltdown festival—held in the beautiful Cascade mountains 12 years running—they’ve cultivated a legion of die-hard fans thirsty for unique music uniquely performed. Theirs is a musical ethos that’s both timeless and totally of the moment.
