FLOWMOTION -
Seattle, WA
MySpace - Rock / Funk / Rock
FLOWMOTION is a name well known in the Seattle live music
scene. The band has managed to remain in the “best-kept-secret”
vault of the live music scene, all the while honing a live
show that often exceeds the size of the stage they might find
themselves performing on. A FLOWMOTION show is a swooping ride
through the fingers of rock fueled solely on the expert musicianship
of its five parts, producing a sound that’s unmistakably huge.
"In the end this was about as good as ANY headline set
I've ever seen anywhere, tying together place and moment and
people. Flowmotion is an undiscovered country that one needs
to explore in depth." Dennis Cook, Jambase |

"The Presidents of the United States of America scratch
that itch that you can’t reach. They do and say all those
things that you’d like to, but fear what people might think
of you. They are your inner-child, but stinking drunk on
a half-case of cheap beer. And, with the youthful appeal
of the Dead Milkmen, the off-kilter storytelling and slashing
chops of the Violent Femmes, and a razor-sharp sense of irony,
they are utterly undeniable."

When we hit the stage, be ready for some of the nastiest,
most serial crushin funk to ever come out of New Orleans
and beyond. With each member bringing his own flavor to the
music, the power of this combination is undeniable. After
several years of local gigs including Jazz Fest & Mardi

the club and festival scene, and usher in the new age of
funk. |

Five Alarm Funk is a horn powered, percussion fuelled sonic
and visual assault. For more than six years the band has
brought their relentless and unforgettable live show to clubs
and major festivals across Canada and into the United States.
Released in July 2010, Anything Is Possible is
Five Alarm Funk’s third studio album. The genre-spanning,
groove-straddling opus from the heavy-set funk machine reveals
14 tunes of unbridled energy. The album’s first track, Infernal
Monologue, begins with an angelic children’s choir before
quickly moving into classically inspired heavy prog-rock.
From there the party gets started with the disco-funk Zenith
Escalator before turning to driving world-rhythms and
burning middle-eastern inspired horn lines on Titan. Influences
as diverse as Frank Zappa, Yes, J.S. Bach and Antibalas all
make an appearance before Anything is Possible is

Suffice to say you've never heard anything like Manooghi
Hi. Maybe because, to the best of my knowledge, their sound
has never before been attempted. To oversimplify, it's like
this: panoramic rock 'n' roll fronted by a petite, beautiful
Indian woman scat singing in Hindi. The cross-pollination
is dizzying — East and West, ancient and modern, pop and
classical, ecstatic spiritualism and headbanging rock. The
potential for Rusted Root-style world groove dilettantism
arises and is crushed by the frontwoman's chops. It's hard
to argue her authenticity. Her name is Mehnaz, and it turns
out the Mumbai native is a big deal in India, having recorded
a national pop hit in 1996. Now she's working with a crew
of veteran Seattle rockers in effort to do something truly
unprecedented. It's an ambitious project and a stylistic
departure for a town very much rooted in rock 'n' roll tradition.

She is influenced by the sounds and rhythms of jazz and world
