2010 Artists & Performers

Flowmotion
Thu: 8-9:10pm Main
Sat: 9:20-12am Main

FLOWMOTION - Seattle, WA
MySpace - Rock / Funk / Rock

FLOWMOTION is a name well known in the Seattle live music scene. The band has managed to remain in the “best-kept-secret” vault of the live music scene, all the while honing a live show that often exceeds the size of the stage they might find themselves performing on. A FLOWMOTION show is a swooping ride through the fingers of rock fueled solely on the expert musicianship of its five parts, producing a sound that’s unmistakably huge.
"In the end this was about as good as ANY headline set I've ever seen anywhere, tying together place and moment and people. Flowmotion is an undiscovered country that one needs to explore in depth." Dennis Cook, Jambase

The Presidents of the United States of America
Fri: 10:30-12:30am Main

The Presidents of the United States of America - Seattle, WA
MySpace - Pop Punk / Alternative / Punk

"The Presidents of the United States of America scratch that itch that you can’t reach. They do and say all those things that you’d like to, but fear what people might think of you. They are your inner-child, but stinking drunk on a half-case of cheap beer. And, with the youthful appeal of the Dead Milkmen, the off-kilter storytelling and slashing chops of the Violent Femmes, and a razor-sharp sense of irony, they are utterly undeniable."
-Adem Tepedelen

Dumpstaphunk
Sun 9:00-11:00pm Main

Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk - New Orleans, LA
MySpace - Funk / Funk / Funk

When we hit the stage, be ready for some of the nastiest, most serial crushin funk to ever come out of New Orleans and beyond. With each member bringing his own flavor to the music, the power of this combination is undeniable. After several years of local gigs including Jazz Fest & Mardi Gras, we have placed the idea of spreading the Dumpstaphunk theory on the front burner. We are now ready to burn up the club and festival scene, and usher in the new age of funk.

Matt and Everyone Orchestra are committed to working for good and perform frequently in support of charitable causes.

Hot Buttered Rum

Hot Buttered Rum - San Francisco, CA

Mother Hips are playing Summer Meltdown 10
Sat: 6:25 - 8:10 Main

The Mother Hips - San Francisco, CA
MySpace - Rock / Indie / Psych-Pop

The Mother Hips have flown under the radar as true indie music pioneers for almost two decades. With the release of their new album Pacific Dust, California's unsung psych-pop heroes tell their story. Hailed by critics for their "rootsy mix of 70s rock and power pop" (pitchfork.com) and for their unflinching ability to "sing it sweet and play it dirty" (New Yorker), on Pacific Dust The Hips' signature sound rings more genuine and relevant than ever before.

The Mutaytor

The Mutaytor - Los Angeles, CA
MySpace - Progressive / Psychedelic / Rock

For a decade now, The Mutaytor has traveled the country with one of the most bombastic and unique visceral experiences in modern entertainment. Combining a modern analog and electronic dance orchestra, with several physical performance artists, The Mutaytor creates a rapid fire succession of futuristic vaudevillian theatre and choreographed dance acts, coupled with breathtaking feats of aerial performance, giant screen visuals, the occasional massive pyrotechnic display and unique reinterpretations of the circus arts against one of the most evolved progressive art rock bands on the West Coast. The vibe is ecstatic, friendly and all-inclusive, and each show is an explosion of immersive, vivid art; both on and off the stage.

McTuff - Seattle, WA
MySpace - Soul / Jazz / Funk

What began as an ode to some of the organ greats in soul jazz, such as delivering their own take on the works of Jimmy Smith and Captain Jack McDuff, soon turned into something more. A movement towards being a band that can appeal to almost any audience, room, and vibe. Melody, dynamics, and groove...from the soft and surreal to deep funk. From swinging soul...all the way to the thumping metal grind...no musical stone gets unturned. McTUFF is about letting it all go and having fun, a moment of time to remember the groove laid down by the soul masters, as well as introduce original works of their own.

Released in July 2010, Anything Is Possible is Five Alarm Funk’s third studio album. The genre-spanning, groove-straddling opus from the heavy-set funk machine reveals 14 tunes of unbridled energy. The album’s first track, Infernal Monologue, begins with an angelic children’s choir before quickly moving into classically inspired heavy prog-rock. From there the party gets started with the disco-funk Zenith Escalator before turning to driving world-rhythms and burning middle-eastern inspired horn lines on Titan. Influences as diverse as Frank Zappa, Yes, J.S. Bach and Antibalas all make an appearance before Anything is Possible is finished.

Moonhigi
Sat: 3:50-5:00pm Main

Manooghi Hi - Seattle, WA
MySpace - Boomba Rock

Suffice to say you've never heard anything like Manooghi Hi. Maybe because, to the best of my knowledge, their sound has never before been attempted. To oversimplify, it's like this: panoramic rock 'n' roll fronted by a petite, beautiful Indian woman scat singing in Hindi. The cross-pollination is dizzying — East and West, ancient and modern, pop and classical, ecstatic spiritualism and headbanging rock. The potential for Rusted Root-style world groove dilettantism arises and is crushed by the frontwoman's chops. It's hard to argue her authenticity. Her name is Mehnaz, and it turns out the Mumbai native is a big deal in India, having recorded a national pop hit in 1996. Now she's working with a crew of veteran Seattle rockers in effort to do something truly unprecedented. It's an ambitious project and a stylistic departure for a town very much rooted in rock 'n' roll tradition. - Jonathan Zwickel Seattle Times

In a sea of Hendrix-inspired guitarists, Randy Hansen stands tall and is one of the few players officially recognized by the Hendrix family. Having toured and played with Uli Jon Roth, Jack Bruce, Paul Rodgers, Mitch Mitchell, and Buddy Miles, among others, Hansen is a true living testament to the Father of Heavy Guitar (Jimi). Digging deep with passion, maturity, and conviction, Randy Hansen creates and scapes of sound, masterful guitar work, strong riffage, and remarkably authentic killer cosmic tones as he channels the Spirit of Jimi Hendrix through his Fender Strat. She is influenced by the sounds and rhythms of jazz and world music, the story telling of folk and the vocal techniques of Gregorian chant. (Oh yeah, there's a bit of Mariah Carey in there too) She likes to think of songs as packages that wrap up all the odds and ends, the joys and sorrows, the struggles and observations, the connections, and the beginnings. She also thinks it's pretty wondrous that music makes it so easy to say the things that are so hard to say without it.
